What's the best canoe for a beginner?

Okay, so here's the deal. The first thing you need to consider is the price. Because you can get a canoe priced anywheres from 80 bucks to several thousand dollars depending on what your looking for.
So let's start with the least expensive and work our way up.

First up we have the inflatables which I'm sorry but I don't consider these to be canoes they're more like kayaks. So we will discuss them in another article separate from this one and here is the link for that article.

Let's begin with the pelican 15 and a half foot canoe. Very similar to the Product Sun Dolphin Mackinaw 15.6' Canoe.

This canoe has an 800 pound carrying capacity, aluminum gunwales with protective sleeves. It has carrying handles on the bow and the stern, it has cup holders, vertical fishing rod holders and three molded bench seats.
This canoe comes in at 81 lb which seems a little heavy for its length.

Looking at customer reviews on this canoe 88% of all customers give it 5 stars.
Price on these canoes runs from $350 to $600 depending on where you're buying and if you need to have it shipped.

This page is just getting started. Please give me your feedback.

STOP EVERYTHING! WOW did I get some feedback!  More than 85% of the outdoorsmen that responded said buy an

“ There are a lot of Old Town Canoes out there, and they last forever. It is a part of our heritage. It will never go away.”

So why Old Town?

What's so special about Old Town canoes?

Every single owner I spoke with said the same thing , "They just last forever."

Most told me I would be far better off to find a used Old Town canoe than to buy any other brand New. Even if they where the same price!

When you consider how much easier they are to paddle and how much more stable they are I guess there really is no comparison.
